Günter Wand believed that the greatness of Bruckner's music could only be grasped through a lovingly detailed account of its structure. The inspired perfection of his masterly conducting ensured that he achieved this aim. The films of his Bruckner concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, from 1987 onwards, can truly be regarded as Günter Wand's legacy to the NDR Sinfonieorchester, "his" orchestra for almost 20 years.
"Bruckner's symphonies carry an undeniably spiritual dimension—for some an extension of the composer's extreme religiosity, and for others an affirmation of the perennial interconnections between music and art. Whether Wand wanted it or not, on those evenings the Lübeck Musik und Kongresshalle became a cathedral and Wand its high priest…. Visually and aurally these performances will thrill Bruckner critics and enthusiasts alike."—Notes
