The best British folk-rock band of the late 1960s, Fairport Convention harbored exceptional songwriters as well as being groundbreaking reinterpreters of traditional music. Titled for one of the group's best-loved classics, this CD was recorded on their 35th anniversary tour (2002) in Canterbury. The lineup sparkles, and the pace is fleet. Songs range from "The Happyman," "Western Wind," and "Journeyman's Grace" to the contemporary "Suicide Is Painless" (from M*A*S*H) combined with the classics "Matty Groves" and "Dirty Linen" in a delirious, marathon medley. The band's own history is retold through the sprightly "Meet on the Ledge," a driving "Walk Awhile," and a triumphant "Rosie."
