|
|
One of MGM's best swashbucklers, this 1952 film version of the Sir Walter Scott classic received three Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Cinematography, and Musical Score (Miklós Rózsa). Robert Taylor stars as the loyal knight who, after returning from the Crusades, attempts to raise the ransom for England's King Richard (Norman Wooland), held prisoner in Austria. Along the way, Ivanhoe is disowned by his father (Finlay Currie), fought over by two women (Joan Fontaine and Elizabeth Taylor), and betrayed by his closest associates (George Sanders and Robert Douglas) before achieving his goal.
