In this rare 1971 concert performance of the first act of Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece, the legendary Catalan soprano ("La Superba") is commanding yet vulnerable in "Casta diva," the Druid priestess's song to the moon. Joining Caballé in the excellent cast are Margreta Elkins (Adalgisa), Robleto Merolla (Pollione), and James Morris. Also from the Teatro Real in Madrid is a bonus live recital (1979) with arias and songs by Handel, Vivaldi, Cherubini, and Granados.
