The summer after her high school graduation, sexy Daisy Araujo (Julia Roberts), her sensible sister Kat (Annabeth Gish), and their wisecracking friend Jojo (Lili Taylor) waitress in a pizza joint, but all dream of leaving the little coastal town of Mystic, Connecticut. Daisy falls for a rich kid, but wonders if she'll ever be accepted in his world. Kat dreams of going to Yale but settles for an affair with the father of a child she babysits. Jojo is happy to remain in Mystic with her fisherman boyfriend but worries about the effect marriage will have on their sex lives. Through it all, the girls come to depend on each other for friendship, respect, and possibly a way out of Mystic in this coming-of-age film from 1988.
