Based on John O'Hara's scandalous 1935 novel about the life of call girl Gloria Wandrous, this 1960 film was the vehicle for Elizabeth Taylor's first Academy Award. Laurence Harvey is unhappily married executive Weston Liggett, for whom Gloria goes from being a fling to an obsession; Taylor's real-life boyfriend Eddie Fisher co-stars as Steve Carpenter, one of Gloria's many conquests, making tabloid headlines because Taylor had just "stolen" the pop singer from former wife Debbie Reynolds.
