Magnum photographer Dennis Stock met James Dean in 1954, and they were fast friends during the final year of the Hollywood legend's brief life. He captured Dean's essence in a stunning series of photos for Life magazine, seen here among 125 black and white photos and brief reminiscences by Stock. Along with the iconic portrait of Dean walking in Times Square in the rain, we see him sitting in the barber's chair, visiting Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio, and taking dance class with Eartha Kitt. Here too are more personal moments—Dean the Indiana farm boy, clowning with younger relatives, posing with a shotgun, reclining with cows, and playing the bongos in a pig pen.
