In the Lakota Oglala Sioux Nation of South Dakota, cousins Rick Overlooking Horse and You Choose Watson are at odds, each grappling with their heritage in different ways. A rising anger over injustices of the federal government toward their people divides the tribe as well; Rick takes the path of peace, while You Choose turns to violence, and soon is jailed. In this first novel from the author of Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, unpublished until 2017, Rick finds orphaned twin boys in his meadow. He raises them in the culture of their ancestors, affirming their place in the universe as the result of all who have come before. But after three decades, You Choose returns to the reservation, and his anger infects all their lives.
