Not a compendium of peach recipes—although White Peaches in Chilled Moscato is included here—this book is something far grander: a multifaceted look at how food can set the tone for everyday life, and how dishes evoke cherished memories of people and places. The recipes are stellar: Tuscan Grape Bread & Italian Cheeses, Pumpkin Soup with Sage Butter, Braised Pork with Ginger & Star Anise, Semolina Bread with Orange & Aniseed, and Turkish Coffee Ice Cream. Among the other pleasures are Diana Henry's vivid reminiscences; distinguished photographs of these sumptuous foods; and the book's cover, which has a pleasingly peachlike fuzziness.
