It can be easy to forget that Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm did not write all of the classic fairy tales, as this anthology of Charles Perrault's stories for readers 4 to 8 reminds us. Appearing in their original 1697 forms rather than later Hollywood versions, here are "Sleeping Beauty," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Puss in Boots," "Cinderella," "Little Tom Thumb," and three other tales. Each is brought to life by a different contemporary French illustrator, in styles ranging from cheerful cartoons to gorgeous, expressionistic tableaux.
