A 1948 Caldecott Medal winner for White Snow, Bright Snow and beloved for his series about Petunia the goose, Roger Duvoisin is an inspired choice to visualize Clement Moore's well-known 1823 poem about the most anticipated night of the year. First published in 1954, this tall and narrow book—rather chimney-shaped, really—is indeed a fresh, modern take on a classic, distinguished by Duvoisin's use of jaunty lines and boldly colored patterns, reminding us a bit of Henri Matisse.
