Peter and his father are moving to a new house far out in the dark unfriendly woods. Fortunately, he has Harold the dog for company, but to be on the safe side, Peter uses a tall pile of pillows to create Lenny, Guardian of the Bridge. Using egg tempera, charcoal, and carbon transfer printing, Erin Stead brings these characters to life, while capturing the atmosphere of the mysterious forest. Peter worries that Lenny will get lonely out by the woods all by himself, so he makes Lucy, and in Philip Stead's warm and reassuring tale for readers 4 to 8, they all discover that this new place isn't so scary after all.
