During the course of a career spanning more than 50 years, Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) designed nearly 100 single-family houses. Aalto, also known for his furniture and glassware, worked in a distinctive style that blended modernism and traditional vernacular architecture. Concentrating on more than two dozen of Aalto's innovative residences created in the 1920s through 1974, this book includes photographs of the equally intriguing interiors and exteriors of such residences as Aatalo Manor, Maison Carré, the Korpikoto Hunting Lodge, and the Muuratsolo Experimental House. The structures are discussed in individual texts, and some are complemented by Aalto's superb drawings.
