A massive nor'easter has hit northern Virginia, where Mary Minor "Harry" Harristeen joins groundskeeping efforts at the National Beagle Club for a veterans' benefit. But in this 28th outing (after Probable Claws), things take a sinister turn when a retired officer is found dead. Soon enough, another murder in their midst convinces Harry that the killer is familiar with the Club—and may be in plain sight. Meanwhile, at Harry's church, someone is trying to steal pearls from a skeleton. What's going on? As always, Harry's crime-solving cats Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, and Tee Tucker the Corgi will sniff out the foes among friends, and a ghostly beagle only they can see may hold the key to the culprit.
