From narrative painting, 20th century British artist Claude Francis Barry moved through pointillism, vorticism, and abstraction, then late in life began to reinterpret his early landscape etchings as oil paintings, using simplified planes of bold color. Four scenes of great French architecture decorate the twenty notecards in this assortment: Carcassonne, Vincennes, The Palace of the Popes, Avignon, and Sacre Coeur—Moonlight.
