Cats are often vain, self-absorbed, and irresistible—just like some of our favorite artists. In the 70 watercolor illustrations here, New Yorker cartoonist Victoria Roberts depicts feline versions of such luminaries as Frida Kahlo, painting a bewhiskered self-portrait; a surreal Jean Cocteau, with six arms to hold everything he needs; and Henry Miller with Anaïs Nin, both looking quite satisfied. Here too are kitty versions of Gertrude Stein, Merce Cunningham, and Martha Graham, plus cats indulging in small pleasures like playing with wool and walking on stilts. But no matter what they're doing, these cats look marvelous—and they know it.
