An artist with a free-wheeling lifestyle (at least by the standards of 1930s Australia), wealthy Rowland Sinclair reluctantly agrees to a charity race. He'll drive his beloved yellow Mercedes on the Maroubra Speedway—known as the Killer Track for the lives it has claimed—with a young Errol Flynn and well-known driver Joan Richmond as teammates. Then the body of a journalist covering the race is found in a House of Horrors, and an English blueblood with Blackshirt affiliations dies in a Maroubra crash. When someone takes a shot at Rowland and the police arrest one of his housemates for murder, this 7th case (after A Murder Unmentioned) looks to be his most challenging yet.
