For more than a decade, Lloyd Kahn has been hiking and camping on Northern California beaches, and he became fascinated by the unique and whimsical beach shacks constructed by unknown builders. Primitive but with an undeniable allure, these structures are built without nails, and inevitably become victims of wind, waves, and high tides. The dozens of color photographs included here affectionately document 60 of these now-vanished shacks, while other images of fishermen, surfers, otters, and beach sculptures serve as a warm tribute to this special part of the world.
