On June 21, 1964, more than 20 Klansmen murdered three civil rights workers, in what would become known as the "Mississippi Burning" case. Even though the killers' identities, including the sheriff's deputy, were an open secret, no one was charged with murder in the years that followed. Determined to see justice done, investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell took the initiative on this decades-old crime, and tracked down the mastermind behind it. Here he details how it occurred, and also recounts how he contributed to solving such famous cold cases as the assassination of Medgar Evers, the firebombing of Vernon Dahmer, and the 16th Street Church bombing in Birmingham.
