When a proper black cat named Miss Catherine St. Quintin—Kitty, for short—decides to go a-hunting, she gets more of an adventure than she'd anticipated, in this previously unpublished Beatrix Potter tale for readers 5 and up. It turns out that despite one's having an air-gun at the ready, a smart hunting outfit, and shiny boots, poaching is dangerous business. Poor Kitty very nearly goes from predator to prey, and after her adventure she learns to appreciate the respectable life of hosting tea parties and catching mice at home. British Children's Laureate Quentin Blake applies his own unique illustration style to Potter's story, which includes familiar characters like Tabitha Twitchit, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, and Mr. Tod.
