"A mathematician, like a painter or poet, is a maker of patterns," wrote British math genius G.H. Hardy. In this fascinating survey, photographer Jessica Wynne presents remarkable examples of this idea through 100 images of mathematicians' chalkboards. The photographs are accompanied by essays from each mathematician, including Sun-Yung Alice Chang, Alain Connes, Peter Shor, and Claire Voisin. Among the highlights are Terence Tao's colorful geometric designs, and Wilfrid Gangbo's simple forms, with chalk smudges seeming to form part of a deliberate design. Also included are an afterword by New Yorker's Alec Wilkinson, and biographical information for each contributor.
