Librarian Cleo Watkins is delighted that the Georgia Antiquarian Book Society has brought its annual fair to Catalpa Springs in honor of Cleo's gentleman friend, bookseller and restorer, Henry Lafayette. However, there's trouble at the fair when a flirtatious book scout makes the rounds, charming locals out of prized books. In this third case (after Better Off Read), it's bad enough when Cleo's cousin Dot is cheated of her first-edition Gone with the Wind, but then the book thief turns up dead, killed with a binding tool in Henry's shop. Now both Dot and Henry are suspects, and with the authorities on the wrong trail, Cleo has no choice but to catalog the evidence herself.
