In the spring of 1919, Paris is filled with delegates forging the Treaty of Versailles, British diplomat Sir Henry Maxted among them. When he turns up dead outside a Montparnasse apartment building, French police conclude that Sir Henry tripped and fell from the roof, but when his son Max arrives to collect the body, it becomes clear to him there is more to the story. In his debut thriller, what should have been a straightforward inquiry soon leads Max to enter a perilous world of secret allegiances, international espionage, and double- and triple-crosses—and to track down the beautiful woman whose apartment Sir Henry often visited.
