After being abducted by a crazed fan, novelist Beth Rivers escaped by throwing herself from a speeding van, suffering a head injury and memory loss. While healing from her injuries, she escapes to remote Benedict, Alaska. The town is in turmoil over the apparent suicide of Linda Rafferty, although no one quite believes that conclusion. As rumors spread, suspicion falls upon the felons at a local halfway house—and Beth herself. In this series debut, Beth starts her own investigation, but it stirs up memories she'd much rather had stayed forgotten.
