The art and writing of Edward Gorey abounds with oddities, macabre misadventures, and oblique humor. So too did his forays into theater, and he often designed pinback buttons for the occasion, to the delight of those attending—a tangible souvenir for anyone lucky enough to have witnessed one of the plays, puppet shows, revues, or other entertainments that Gorey had a hand in. Researched and photographed by collector Jonas Ploeger, more than 50 of these round and precious relics are catalogued here, from "Stuffed Elephants" and "Tragic Secrets" to "Napkin Folding" and of course "New York City Ballet" (and frequently, "New York Kitty Ballet"), all in classic Gorey style, in an album with an embossed cover.
