In 1940, Margret and H.A. Rey fled Nazi-occupied France, taking along their concept of Curious George; in the same era, the Reys also created Pretzel, the world's longest Dachshund. The inspiration for the Apple TV series, this 1946 charmer follows the adventures of Pretzel and his wife Greta as they raise five puppies, who of course cause mayhem wherever they go. As readers 4 to 6 will find, Pretzel is an appealing character in his own right, and Rey's illustrations are as energetic and expressive as always.
