England, 1953. Magician Max Mephisto and his daughter Ruby are headlining a variety show at the Brighton Hippodrome—an occasion slightly marred by the supporting act: a tableau show of naked "living statues." When one of the girls turns up dead not long after, Max and Ruby realize there's something sinister afoot in the theater. In this fourth outing (after The Blood Card), Max and his friend DI Edgar Stephens connect the girl's fatal vanishing act to the death of a local florist. But when Ruby goes missing, Edgar and Max must reach deep into their bag of tricks to find her before it's too late.
