On the cusp of World War I, shy artist Suzanne Malherbe meets Jewish intellectual Lucie Schwob in a French village, and the teens cautiously embark on a love affair. Later moving to Paris, they reinvent themselves as Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, avant-garde photographers. As another war looms, they flee to Jersey Island, and in this vividly imagined re-creation of true events, they will risk their lives to wage a bold propaganda war against the Nazis.
