We love this storytelling activity set—we only wish we'd had one like it when we were young. At the heart of it are 20 beautifully illustrated blocks with color-coded story elements on each face (characters, things, places, feelings, actions, and situations), along with a cleverly written guidebook. Storytellers 8 and up can roll the blocks like dice and turn to the book to see how to create essential dynamics like conflict, motivation, and dialogue. For example, roll the blocks and find a red one (a person or animal) and a green one (action)—you might end up telling a tale of a cowboy who just wanted to dance, or a mummy who wanted to race cars. Each block measures about 1¼ inches, and the set fits neatly on the bookshelf.
