Named for Joseph Pickford (bap. 1734-1782), an English architect, and one of the leading provincial architects during the reign of King George III. Pickford was born in Warwickshire in 1734, but he moved to London when he was 10. Pickford lived in Derby and the house he designed for his family is located at Number 41 Friar gate. It is now the Pickford's House Museum. Pickford worked extensively throughout the Midland of England, primarily designing houses in the Palladian style.
