(Academy Award Winner for Best Song Included/"You'll Never Know" from Hello, Frisco, Hello) In a career spanning just ten years, Alice Faye (1915–98) enjoyed international fame on the strength of her wholesome good looks, onscreen charm, and lovely singing voice. In addition to 1943's vaudeville tale Hello, Frisco, Hello, this set of five movies includes Rose of Washington Square (1939) starring Faye as a thinly veiled version of Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice, with Tyrone Power as her gambler husband; The Great American Broadcast (1941), in which she plays a woman who will do anything to help her husband's radio show stay on the air, and from 1939, Hollywood Cavalcade stars Faye as a silent film starlet, with cameos by Buster Keaton, Mack Sennett, and Al Jolson. Each disc contains a featurette about the film, and the set comes with a booklet recounting Faye's life and career.
