Performances by glamorous operatic superstars Anna Netrebko ("Quando men vo" from La Bohème and "Regnava del silenzio" from Lucia di Lammermoor) and Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Yeletsky's aria from The Queen of Spades and "O Carlo, ascolta" from Don Carlos) are but two of the glories in this magnificent, expertly filmed concert. Instrumental highlights include Respighi's Adagio con variazioni and Bruch's Kol Nidrei for cello and orchestra— both performed intoxicatingly well by Mischa Maisky—Ravel's Concerto for Piano Left Hand, and Saint-Saëns' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for Violin and Orchestra with violinist Viktor Tretyakov.
"I found Elisso Virsaladze's Ravel Left-hand Concerto … a breath-taking experience. Her interpretation was one of the finest I've ever heard…. She plays with a nearly perfect marriage of technique and feeling here, and is abetted brilliantly by the young conductor Nikolai Alekseev."—Classical Net
