In November 1980, just weeks before John Lennon's death, photographer Allan Tannenbaum was given total access to Lennon and Yoko Ono, who together had decided to come out of five years' seclusion and promote a new record album. John and Yoko is both a candid double portrait and a heartfelt tribute in this limited edition, which includes a facsimile copy of Soho News and a signed photographic print by Tannenbaum enclosed in a record album cover, all in an embossed white linen clamshell. The book itself is a beautiful publication, with 12-inch-square pages, silver page edges, and a foldout with a 19-inch double portrait. It includes Tannenbaum's photos of Lennon's final stage performance, in 1975; studio images and relaxed photos of the couple in the park and in the offices they shared; and pictures taken in the aftermath of Lennon's murder. Most remarkable are the images Tannenbaum made during the photo session for the Double Fantasy album, in which John and Yoko pose nude together in intimate embraces.

"In 1975, photographer Tannenbaum met John Lennon and Yoko Ono while covering the taping of what would be Lennon's final public performance. Tannenbaum eventually began a comfortable working relationship with Lennon and Ono as they emerged from years of seclusion to promote their album Double Fantasy, the release of which would presage Lennon's Dec. 8, 1980 murder by mere weeks. This volume collects Tannenbaum's images from that time, many never before published, providing breathtaking, borderline-voyeuristic peeks into one of rock's most enigmatic couples. Most photos here were taken in November and December 1980, including a Central Park stroll, working in the home office and an intimate, dreamlike series featuring the couple undressing and in bed in an all-white gallery exhibition space. A chapter on Lennon's death captures the despair of a city as word of the murder spread. Tannenbaum introduces each chapter with an eloquent personal narrative, but these narrow slices of Lennon's life speak volumes about the reclusive couple's later years."Publishers Weekly (starred review)
