A German group formed in 1991, Trio Jean Paul consists of violinist Ulf Schneider, cellist Martin Löhr, and pianist Eckart Heiligers. Winners of many prestigious prizes and awards, they perform in major cities of Europe, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Bernard Holland of the New York Times praised their "heartfelt yet scrupulous attention to European music's grammar and vocabulary" when they appeared at the 2009 Beethovenfest.
"Full marks to the Trio Jean Paul for choosing two of Beethoven's chamber works that are generally put in the shade by their more obviously original neighbours…. The E-flat major Trio is a big work which hides a good deal of originality behind its four outwardly equable movements…. You will find the performances on this disc very well proportioned and the recordings excellent."—The Strad
