César Franck's Sonata in A Major is one of the most superb for violin and piano ever composed, while his Prélude, Choral et Fugue is one of the true masterpieces of French piano music; its marvelously fervent atmosphere emanates from the very first arpeggios. The Prélude, Aria et Finale is similar to the other works in its brilliant melodies and harmonies and its aura of progressing towards the light.
