Description
Sure to have something for everyone, this Dave Koz holiday album features duets with friends, who just happen to be some of the most prominent pop and jazz artists around. "Christmas songs already have, inherently, in their DNA, all the things you want in a piece of music," says Koz. "Why do we want to hear these same songs year after year? Because they're more than just lyrics or notes on a page. They're touchstones. They are musical doorways that enable us to go back and visit times in our lives that were much simpler and much more innocent." The 12-track album opens with an orchestral rendition of "The First Noel" and continues with "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" featuring Johnny Mathis, "My Grown Up Christmas List" sung by Tony Award winner Heather Headley, "Do You Hear What I Hear" by Gloria Estefan, and the R&B holiday classic "This Christmas," delivered by vocalist Eric Benét. "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" is a sax summit with Kenny G, while the gorgeous title track, by BeBe Winans, was written especially for the album. With help from Trombone Shorty, India.Arie puts an old-school groove on "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" (ŕ la Ella Fitzgerald), and Fantasia brings in Christmas Eve with a gospel-style medley of "O Come All Ye Faithful," "Angels We Have Heard on High," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." Ultimately, Stevie Wonder leads the way on a rousing, resonant version of the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love."
