Description
This unique program centers on two early 17th-century manual organs from the village of Andahuaylillas (near Cuzco, Peru), probably made by native craftsmen working with Spanish builders.

"Chapelet displays his consummate skills at improvisation ... on each instrument, with richly varied sections enabling us to hear the clarity and beauty of the ranks both individually and combined.... Pieces he plays include a fiery Medio Registro by Correa, with excellent ornamentation and rhythmic pointing ... a Fantasia by Phillips and two sets of variations by Sweelinck. Uriel Valadeau plays a Tiento Lleno by Correa ... and a full-blooded Toccata by Zipoli, who had Andean connections. In two pieces they play each organ together, the Canto Llano de la Immaculada Concepción by Correa, and the most impressive arrangement of the Canzon XIX a 8 by Trofeo, the bright reeds dominating. The final piece is a version for choral and instrumental ensemble plus organ of the bailete Hanaq Pachap by Bocanegra, parish priest of this church, published in 1631…. This CD gives us a rare insight into one of the gems from the New World and is recommended to all who enjoy something different as well as to specialists and enthusiasts of the Iberian world."—The Organ
