Description
Japanese-born violinist Ryoko Yano won three prizes at Geneva in 2004, including the event's highest honor; her buoyant yet refined rendition of Mozart's Concerto in A Major for Violin and Orchestra (no. 5) KV 219 proves this young artist's depth and maturity. With pianist Sergey Koudriakov, Ms. Yano performs Béla Bartók's Second Rhapsody ("Folk Dances") for violin and piano, Eugène Ysaÿe's "Poème élégiaque," op. 12, and Camille Saint-Saëns's Violin Sonata no. 1, op. 75. Founded in 1939, the Geneva Competition is among the oldest and most prestigious events of its kind, one of the few in which virtually all of the classical instruments and voices are represented. This disc is one in a series of recordings which showcases some of the event's top performers, backed by L'Orchestre de Chambre de Genève.
