Description
When a body turns up in a leather sack during the annual "cripples' day" pilgrimage, Cadfael uncovers a twisted tale of retribution ("The Pilgrim of Hate"). In "The Potter's Field," a woman's skeleton is unearthed in a field recently donated to the abbey, forcing Cadfael to investigate one of his fellow monks. The holy relics of Saint Winifred disappear in "The Holy Thief," implicating two visiting monks tasked with obtaining money to rebuild their ransacked monastery. After his acclaimed role as the complex Roman Emperor Claudius in the television series I, Claudius, Derek Jacobi switched genres to play a Crusader turned monk in the series Cadfael, seen on PBS's Mystery! in the late 1990s and adapted from the bestselling books by Ellis Peters. At the Benedictine Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul, Brother Cadfael's knowledge of flowers and herbs—as well as his canny insights into human nature—help him and his friend, Sheriff Hugh Beringar, to solve crimes and right wrongs in war-torn medieval England (12th-century Shrewsbury, to be exact). Special features of this set include exclusive audio commentary by Jacobi, an Ellis Peters biography, a production scrapbook, and more.
