Germany's Susanne Grützmann has won prizes at the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau in 1981, the Concurso Vianna da Motta in Lisbon in 1983, the Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1984, and other international events. Winning first prize at the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich in 1989 confirmed her reputation, and she is today regarded as one of the top German pianists. Her recording for Hänssler of Clara Schumann's oeuvre for solo piano was an Editor's Choice selection of Gramophone. Here she performs a group of lyrical and poetic masterpieces by Robert Schumann.
"Grützmann emphasizes what makes Schumann come alive today: his subjective, unconventional individuality. Due to her precise concentration and understanding of the Romantic era, Susanne Grützmann lets the listener experience Schumann's emotionality, but also the tension between intellect and psyche; simply a grand Schumann interpretation."—Südkurier
