Some consider Denmark's Carl Nielsen to be the last great symphonist. Douglas Bostock, who has recorded all six of Nielsen's symphonies with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, is able to elicit an extraordinary level of emotion from his players as well as clear orchestral detail. Unusually, the second movement of the fourth symphony—called "Humoreske"—is for winds and percussion only. Nielsen's Symphonic Rhapsody and the tone poem Cupid and the Poet are also featured, as well as four songs sung by tenor Jan Lund.
"Whatever performance a listener prefers, Nielsen is a gem in music."—San Francisco Classical Voice
