Both Giulio Regondi and Johann Mertz carried on the composer–performer tradition of their great predecessors Fernando Sor and Mauro Giuliani, and these beguiling works display them at their best. Spanish guitarist Ricardo Gallén performs Regondi's Rêverie and Étude no. 4(b), as well as seven polonaises and a rondino by Mertz.
