Description
With plenty of heart, loads of humor, and off-the-charts coloratura singing, Gioachino Rossini's adaptation of the fairy tale Cinderella has remained an audience favorite ever since its 1817 debut. Sonia Ganassi is the touching heroine; Alfonso Antoniozzi plays her vainglorious stepfather, Don Magnifico; Carla Di Censo and Paola Gardina are her stepsisters Clorinda and Tisbe; Antonino Siragusa is her Prince Charming, Don Ramiro; Marco Vinco his posturing servant, Dandini; and Simón Orfila his tutor, Alidoro. This colorful production was recorded live at Genoa's Teatro Carlo Felice in 2006.

"Any production of Cenerentola rises or falls on the shoulders of its heroine, and Sonia Ganassi has a warm, rich mezzo voice with all the agility to articulate Rossini's tricky coloratura…. Don Magnifico and his obnoxious daughters are well served (and sung)…. A fine addition to the available productions of this opera."—American Record Guide

"Antoniozzi contributes a fine Don Magnifico, both colorful and comedic…. Simón Orfila is an excellent Alindoro. Marco Vinco steals the show with a fabulous vocal and visual Dandini. His performance is worth the price of the two discs. Renato Palumbo conducts with spirit and brio. The picture quality is fine, as is the sound."—Fanfare
