Rudy Valentine (Gene Wilder) is a baker in 1920s Milwaukee. After he enters a talent search for the new Rudolph Valentino, Rudy and his wife Annie (Carol Kane) go to Hollywood to land a screen test. Once there, Annie falls in love with the real Valentino; a jealous Rudy disguises himself as the Latin heartthrob and invites Annie to the studio, where he tries to seduce her. Extras include a commentary track by Wilder.
"A lesson on stunted sexuality masquerading as a broad, sentimental romantic comedy, 1977's The World's Greatest Lover stars Wilder as an unemployable, sexually rapacious Midwestern loser.... Kane lends her equally expressive eyes and poignantly childlike presence to the role of ... a swooning dreamer infatuated by Valentino and increasingly alienated by her husband's abrasiveness."—The AV Club
