Description
(Black Reel Award Winner/Best Actress (Angela Bassett); Winner of L.A. Film Critics Association and Golden Satellite awards for Best Supporting Actress (Edie Falco)) In this 2003 romantic drama by John Sayles, an infomercial actress and her new husband (Angela Bassett and James McDaniel) return to her hometown in coastal northern Florida, where they face family conflict and encroaching real estate development. In a fine cast of Dickensian proportions, the riveting Bassett won the Best Actress Black Reel Award and the Image Award, while Edie Falco won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Golden Satellite Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the unfulfilled proprietor of the aging Sea-Vue Motel. And the wonderful Jane Alexander shines as environmentalist Delia Temple, who runs the community theater and is known as "the Sarah Bernhardt of Delrona Beach."

"You can feel the heat that ignites this gripping tale, and the humor and humanity that root it in feeling. Sayles knows how to use his social conscience: He lets it rip."—Rolling Stone

"Few white directors depict racial interaction in a thoughtful, non-exploitative way, but Sayles has always been one of them."—Charlotte Observer

"Explores human nature—leashed and unleashed—in ways that resonate."—Philadelphia Inquirer
