Description
(Academy Award & Grammy Winner for Best Song ("Moon River")) Audrey Hepburn was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her career-defining role as the free spirit Holly Golightly in Blake Edwards's 1961 adaptation of the Truman Capote novella. Holly is the center of attention wherever she goes, but finds that she can only find contentment with her neighbor, failed writer Paul Varjak (George Peppard). Patricia Neal co-stars as Paul's rather mercenary romantic interest, and Mickey Rooney is Holly's highly irritable landlord, Mr. Yunioshi. The Henry Mancini song that Audrey sings and strums on her guitar, "Moon River," won the Oscar for Original Song (and won the Grammy for Song of the Year).

"Holly, a failed actress, meets with the appropriately WASPy Paul Varjak ... a fiction writer with a discreet 'arrangement' with an heiress, the impeccably coutured Patricia Neal. Peppard's Paul, as Holly's new neighbor, quickly becomes enmeshed in Miss Golightly's fizzy, effervescent life.... She lives modestly, but has a chic wardrobe, and is always glamorous on her evening jaunts. She flits from soirée to soirée, dines at '21', and imagines her beloved Tiffany's as an enchanted place where nothing bad ever happens ... Hepburn's mesmerizing, kittenish performance ... dominates every scene she's in."—Pop Matters
