Description
These rarities and classics from the golden age of doo-wop are sung by both boy and girl groups. Included are "Every Beat of My Heart" and "Letter Full of Tears" by Gladys Knight & the Pips; "All Night Long" and "Baby I Love You" by the Du Mauriers; "My Love Will Never Die" and "My Heart Is Sad" by the Channels; "I'm So Happy" by Lewis Lymon & the Teenchords; "Mary Lee" by the Rainbows; "Remember" and "Rockin' at Midnight" by Sherman & the Darts; "While Our Hearts Are Young" and "You're the One I Love" by the Federals; "Coralee" and "Joys of Love" by Little Bobby Riveria & the Hemlocks; "This Is the Life" by Bobby Marchan & the Tick Tocks; "Your Love" by Carl Hogan & the Miracles; "East of the Sun" and "Truly Yours" by the Scarlets, and more. This disc is part of a series of recordings culled from the catalog of Fire and Fury, well-regarded indie labels fronted by Bobby Robinson, a New York record producer who correctly anticipated the mainstream popularity of doo-wop and R&B. Here's a chance to revisit some greats from the era or discover some hidden musical treasures. Bill Dahl's extensive liner notes include biographical information about many of the performers.

"Operating out of his record store near the Apollo Theatre, Robinson was clearly at the right place at the right time during the '50s and '60s, but it wasn't his luck so much as his ear for talent and personal recording philosophy that made the sessions he cut for his Fire and Fury labels, among others, so memorable and exciting."Washington Post
