Description
Junior Wells emerged in the early 1950s as one of Chicago's most inventive harp virtuosos. After fronting the legendary Aces quartet with his electrified harmonica and soulful vocals, he replaced Little Walter in the Muddy Waters band, and eventually formed a longtime partnership with Buddy Guy. Along with the title track, the 20 songs include "Cha Cha Cha in Blue," "I Could Cry," "Calling All Blues," "Lovey Dovey Lovely One," "Two-Headed Woman," "I Need Me a Car," "It Hurts Me Too," and "When the Cat's Gone the Mice Play."

"The earliest juke sides of Junior Wells recorded in Chicago. Sidemen on these sessions include Otis Spann, A.C. Reed, Syl Johnson, Popsy Dixon, Earl Hooker, and Jack Myers…. These blues are raw, greasy, unfiltered, and passionate. Wells' vocals are strong throughout and the ensembles tear the roof off…. Get it."—All Music Guide

"There was one story about himself that he enjoyed telling, illustrating his youthful poverty as well as his love of the harmonica. As a youngster, Mr. Wells worked all week on a soda truck to earn enough money to buy a harmonica he had seen at a pawnshop. When told it cost $2, he put down his week's earnings of $1.50, grabbed it and ran. He told a judge he 'just had to have it,' whereupon the judge demanded that Mr. Wells play the harmonica. After listening, the judge gave the store owner 50 cents and dismissed the case."—Washington Post
