Description
Even though Roy Lichtenstein made his name by appropriating images from comic strips and re-creating them to subversive effect, he was nonetheless a sincere—if critical—admirer of modern art. From the 1950s to the 90s, Lichtenstein used lithographs, screen prints, and woodcuts for sly homages to such artists as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Willem de Kooning, and Man Ray. This oversized book's nearly 90 color and black and white illustrations include a foldout of the artist's 1994 Nude with Yellow Pillow, expanding to 11 3/4 × 21 1/2 inches. Jaklyn Babington traces Lichtenstein's love/hate relationship with the art of his era. Related quotations by the artist appear throughout the text.
