Description
(BAFTA Award Winner for Best Adapted Screenplay) In 1952, pregnant Irish teenager Philomena is sent to a convent to give birth. After her baby became a toddler, the nuns forcibly put him up for adoption, and she's been bereft ever since. Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Judi Dench plays the title character and Steve Coogan her newspaper reporter Galahad in this true-life story of motherhood lost and found. Also an Academy Award and Golden Globe Best Picture nominee, the 2013 film garnered Coogan a BAFTA award for Best Adapted Screenplay. DVD features include a conversation with Dench and a profile of the real Philomena.

"The most powerful movie of the year.... I've seen it twice and felt exhilarated, informed, enriched, absorbed and optimistic both times."New York Observer

"Dench and Coogan's chemistry is undeniably great. In the end, he manages to give her the answers she seeks and she manages to give him a heart."Entertainment Weekly

"Stephen Frears deserves special mention. A lesser filmmaker could so easily have turned this project into mushy, sentimental junk. The tear-jerking moments here are heartfelt and real. It's the kind of filmmaking we see too little of today."Chicago Sun-Times
